What about Acts 2:38? Is this not the salvation plan? Must not we "repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit"? The Bible here says we need to be baptized and repent and speak in tongues. This is a necessity for entrance into heaven. please look this up and research it as was not Peter talking to The CHURCH?
Our Reply,
God Bless, and thank you for writing. Here at Believer.com, we are always willing to change how we believe if, from Scripture, we can be shown The Word of God more perfectly.
Your question concerns Acts 2:38, which says:
Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
When Peter stood up and preached this wonderful message on Pentecost, he was not preaching to the Gentiles but to Israel or the Wife of Christ, not the Church, which is His Body. In Truth, Peter didn't get the message from God to go to a Gentile until Acts Chapter 10. In this chapter, Peter says,
Acts 10:28 And he said unto them, Ye know how that it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company, or come unto one of another nation; but God hath shewed me that I should not call any man common or unclean.
Acts 10:34-35 Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:
But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.
At this point, the Gospel message was opened to the Gentiles, and God did this to provoke Israel to jealousy and for them to be converted. This is why, several times, it is stated the message was to the Jew first.:
Rom. 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
Rom. 2:9 Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;
Rom. 2:10 But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile:
Deut. 32:21 They have moved me to jealousy with that which is not God; they have provoked me to anger with their vanities: and I will move them to jealousy with those which are not a people; I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation.
This is repeated in Romans:
Rom. 10:19 But I say, Did not Israel know? First Moses saith, I will provoke you to jealousy by them that are no people, and by a foolish nation I will anger you.
Rom. 11:11 I say then, Have they stumbled that they should fall? God forbid: but rather through their fall salvation is come unto the Gentiles, for to provoke them to jealousy.
Then, finally, in Acts Chapter 28, Paul gathered together some of the Jewish leaders to give Israel the final opportunity to accept Christ Jesus as The Messiah and realize He was the Son of God. Sadly, they went away in dispute, and in Acts 28:28, the Salvation of God was sent to the Gentiles, and this new message is proclaimed:
Acts 28:23-24 And when they had appointed him a day, there came many to him into his lodging; to whom he expounded and testified the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus, both out of the law of Moses, and out of the prophets, from morning till evening. And some believed the things which were spoken, and some believed not.
Acts 28:25-28 And when they agreed not among themselves, they departed, after that Paul had spoken one word, Well spake the Holy Ghost by Esaias the prophet unto our fathers, Saying, Go unto this people, and say, Hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and not perceive: For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them. Be it known therefore unto you, that the salvation of God is sent unto the Gentiles, and that they will hear it.
After Acts 28:28, the new Gospel message is revealed in The Word of God where there is no separation between Jew and Gentile, and there is not an earthly hope of a coming Kingdom, but a Heavenly Hope of Christ's appearing outside of our known world. Salvation is purely Grace, and all Jewish ordinances are removed. This message is a walk of faith, not sight, as there are no sign gifts. There is now One Baptism. Our blessings are not physical manifestations of the Spirit but are enjoyed in the Heavenlies Places in Christ (Eph. 1:3).
This message was hidden in God and revealed first to Paul. You cannot find it in the Old Testament; it is not part of the covenant made with Abraham. For the first time, the Gentiles are called The Church, where Christ is The Head, and we make up His Body. This is The Mystery message in Ephesians, Colossians, and the rest of Paul's Prison Epistles.
Eph. 3:1-3 For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles, If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward: How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery...
Eph. 3:5 Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit;
Col. 1:25-26 Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God; Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:
Col. 1:5 For the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, whereof ye heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel;
Eph. 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:
As you stated, we do not need to be "dunked underwater" or "speak in tongues" for salvation. Yes, we will agree during the Acts period, when the coming Kingdom was being preached to the Jews first and then the Gentiles, they were to be baptized of The Holy Spirit and water. But, as stated above, a new message was revealed (The Mystery). Understanding that God has worked with the human race in different ways (dispensations) at different times is essential. When you get to the New Testament in the Bible, you cannot broad-brush it and say everything somehow applies to today. The Unity of Christian Faith states:
Eph. 4:4-6 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, (this is not water baptism) One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
Col. 2:8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
Col. 2:9 For in Him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
Col. 2:10 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:
Col. 2:11 In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:
Col. 2:12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.
Col. 2:13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;
Col. 2:14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
Col. 2:15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.
Col. 2:16 Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:
Col. 2:17 Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ.
Col. 2:18 Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels, intruding into those things which he hath not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,
Col. 2:19 And not holding the Head, from which all the body by joints and bands having nourishment ministered, and knit together, increaseth with the increase of God.
Col. 2:20 Wherefore if ye be dead with Christ from the rudiments of the world, why, as though living in the world, are ye subject to ordinances,
Col. 2:21 (Touch not; taste not; handle not;
Col. 2:22 Which all are to perish with the using;) after the commandments and doctrines of men?
Col. 2:23 Which things have indeed a shew of wisdom in will worship, and humility, and neglecting of the body; not in any honour to the satisfying of the flesh.
Heb. 6:1 Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,
Heb. 6:2 Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.
Heb. 6:3 And this will we do, if God permit.

John, a Believer Asked:
I understand Jonah's account of 3 days in the belly of the great fish to be likened to that of Christ's three days in the grave, but I see one difference. The Bible I read doesn't say that Jonah died. In Jonah 2:1, the Scripture says, "Then Jonah prayed unto the LORD his God out of the fish's belly," What's up with this?
Our reply,
God Bless you, and thank you for writing. We understand that many people have trouble with the traditional teaching that Jonah was alive in the great fish's belly for the entire three days and nights. We are sure we have similar Bibles, but we will show the Hebrew on the keywords. First, we ask you to consider that if you, being a believer like Jonah, were thrown into the ocean during a ferocious storm and swallowed by a great fish (sea monster) in those moments before your certain demise, you would also be praying as fast and furiously as possible. If you found yourself back on shore alive three days and three nights later, we are convinced you would be giving God the glory. Now, let's look at the record.
First, the length of his stay.
Jonah 1:17 Now the LORD had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish for three days and three nights.
Now, the events of his stay.
Jonah 2:1 Then Jonah prayed unto the LORD his God out of the fish's belly,
Jonah 2:2 And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the LORD, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice.
Hell = Sheol or Hades, the world of the dead (it seems he knew this was a death sentence and where he was soon heading).
Jonah 2:3 For thou hadst cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed me about: all thy billows and thy waves passed over me.
He is already underwater as the waves pass over him.
Jonah 2:4 Then I said, I am cast out of thy sight; yet I will look again toward thy holy temple.
Jonah 2:5 The waters compassed me about, even to the soul: the depth closed me round about, the weeds were wrapped about my head.
Waters compassing his soul = nephesh defined as a breathing creature (still underwater thus unable to breathe) weeds around his head (further affirmation of being still underwater)
Jonah 2:6 I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars was about me for ever: yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, O LORD my God.
Here, he goes down to the bottom of the mountains, thus being buried underwater by the usage of bars or a watery prison. He then shows positively his death as he claims, "Yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, O LORD my God." Corruption = shachath, meaning destruction, corruption, destruction, ditch, grave, pit. He could not be delivered from this state unless he was behind its bars under tremendous pressure from the depths of the mountain's underwater grave.
Jonah 2:7 When my soul fainted within me I remembered the LORD: and my prayer came in unto thee, into thine holy temple.
fainted = ataph to be overwhelmed but confident God will supply his salvation.
Jonah 2:8 They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy.
Jonah 2:9 But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the LORD.
Jonah 2:10 And the LORD spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land.
Now, let's look at the most important evidence of all.
Mat 12:38 Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee.
Mat 12:39 But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:
Mat 12:40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
So we must ask ourselves, how was Jesus Christ in the heart of the earth? So, how must Jonah have been in the great fish's belly? What kind of sign could Jonah have been if he wasn't dead, and if Jonah wasn't dead, then was Christ not raised from the dead? Any answer other than being dead would be the end of the Christian faith, so why do so many cleave unto tradition and ignore The Truth? Fear is the only possible answer, but:
1 John 4:18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.
John 8:32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

IT IS ALL BUT IMPOSSIBLE TO BELIEVE IT WAS NOT REAL. IT CHANGED MY LIFE FOR THE BETTER AND MADE ME A 100% BELIEVER IN GOD AND CHRIST AS MY REDEEMER! YET IT IS AT ODDS WITH YOUR TEACHING OR INTERPRETATION, WHAT SAY YOU!
Dear Believer,
God Bless you, and thank you for writing. We are glad your experience positively affected your life and that you are doing fine now, but we must all believe God and His Word no matter what our experiences are and how real they may seem. Maybe the Father allowed you to have that experience because it removed the fear in that situation and will help you to understand that Everlasting Life, though not currently realized, is a reality that will happen at the Resurrection, which occurs at His Son's return from Heaven. So many people have trouble with the fact that the dead remain dead until The Resurrection because of the traditional belief of "die and go to heaven," but let's look at just a few verses from the Gospel of John. Every pastor knows John 3:16, but how many know and will believe John 3:12-13:
John 3:12 If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?
John 3:13 And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.
John 6:39 And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.
John 6:40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.
John 6:44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.
John 6:54 Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.
John 11:23 Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again.
John 11:24 Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.
John 12:48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.
Now let's look at 1 Corinthians:
1 Cor. 15:51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
1 Cor. 15:52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
1 Cor. 15:53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.
1 Cor. 15:54 So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.
1 Cor. 15:55 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?
1 Cor. 15:56 The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.
1 Cor. 15:57 But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
So why is this not the common teaching?
Gen. 3:4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:

Then I said, I have laboured in vain, I have spent my strength for nought, and in vain: yet surely my judgment is with the LORD, and my work with my God. And now, saith the LORD that formed me from the womb to be his servant, to bring Jacob again to him, Though Israel be not gathered, yet shall I be glorious in the eyes of the LORD, and my God shall be my strength. And he said, It is a light thing that thou shouldest be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel: I will also give thee for a light to the Gentiles, that thou mayest be my salvation unto the end of the earth.

Isa. 53:3-12 He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth. He was taken from prison and from judgment: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut off out of the land of the living: for the transgression of my people was he stricken. And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth. Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand. He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities. Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.

The article was nice and informative. I agreed with it, but I did have a question about one thing.
Since our body returns to dust, is it wrong to have your body cremated or not?
Thanks for your comments.
D.J.
Dear D.J.,
God Bless you, and thank you for writing. We must first understand that the body of flesh is not what will be risen in The Resurrection.
1 Cor. 15:42 So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption:
1 Cor. 15:43 It is sown in dishonour; it is raised in glory: it is sown in weakness; it is raised in power:
1 Cor. 15:44 It is sown a natural body; it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body.
The second is that our body is but dust.
Gen 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
Dust and ashes are really the same thing; just one is formed more rapidly by fire.
Gen 18:27 And Abraham answered and said, Behold now, I have taken upon me to speak unto the Lord, which am but dust and ashes:
So cremation is nothing more than the burial of the body after causing it to return to the dust state rapidly by use of fire rather than the slow process of decay. We see nothing wrong with this or any form of burial as long as the body is not given more importance than God has taught us in His Word.
All God's Blessings,
