Dear Teri,
God Bless your beautiful heart and thank you for writing.  The verses you quote "Jesus Christ Living in us! The hope of glory" is not what the verse says.  Let's look at the actual Scripture and the original words to find the meaning.

Col 1:26  Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints:
Col 1:27  To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:
Col 1:28  Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus:

The Mystery was unknown in other ages and generations according to Paul in Ephesians 3:5 but "Our being reconciled with God..forgiven of all our sins, through the shed blood of Christ" was never a mystery for God told Adam and Eve and all the believer line of the Coming One and that by His death we would be saved.  The Gentiles being saved in Christ was also not a mystery for :

Gen 17:6  And I will make thee exceeding fruitful, and I will make nations of thee, and kings shall come out of thee.
Gen 17:7  And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee.

Gal 3:16  Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ.
Gal 3:17  And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect.
Gal 3:18  For if the inheritance be of the law, it is no more of promise: but God gave it to Abraham by promise.

Isa 11:10  And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious.

Rom 15:12  And again, Esaias saith, There shall be a root of Jesse, and he that shall rise to reign over the Gentiles; in him shall the Gentiles trust.

In Colossians 1:27 the words in and among are the same Greek word en and both should have been translated among. So it is Christ among you, the hope of glory that would be the correct translation.  But this is the riches of the Mystery not the Mystery itself which is what God desires for us to know as Truth for today and is the All Truth that the Holy Spirit teaches.  Only He can reveal this to you and thus the teaching might have seemed hard to understand.  For additional teaching on this Wonderful Truth please see:  http://www.believer.com/teaching/mystery/contents.htm

All God's Blessings,
The Believers
