Before Jesus took the form of man. He was in heaven, beside his farther. Then God sent is only son, Jesus, to earth in the form of man. To redeem the sins of man. And the spirit is simply, that. The spirit of the love and community of those who believe in God and his son.

I see the word "Lord" being used for both God and Jesus. They can both be "Lords". But If God wasn't the Father and Jesus isn't the Son of God. Why are they referred to that way time and again.

Why is the notion of the "Trinity" so important? What is wrong with believing that God in heaven had a son? An assistant? A second?

Why does almost every scripture of the bible have to be analyzed and over analyzed? Until it's interpretation says what the reader want's it to say?

I am no theological scholar (obviously!) but, why do I have to be? Why can't I believe what's written and accept it as the truth? And it is written in scripture after scripture, "Jesus, the son of God".

So here's the big question. Am I still a Christian if I believe God is God and Jesus is Jesus, The son of God? And the holy spirit is the phenomenon of love, faith, hope and charity (to name a few) brought on by living your life dedicated to the lessons of the bible?

Thank you again for hearing me.

Dear Patricia,
We must believe what God says in His Word to be given life everlasting. Let's look at a couple of key verses.

Rom 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

This is the requirement to be Christian and it says we must confess the Lord Jesus or Jesus as Lord but most readers never look at what the word Lord is. It is the Greek word Kurios and according to Strongs Concordance:

From kuros (supremacy); supreme in authority, that is, (as noun) controller; by implication: - God, Lord, Master.

The word Kurios is the Greek word used to translate the Hebrew word Jehovah so for one to be saved they must confess Jesus is Jehovah.

What did the Old Testament says:

Isa 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

Gen 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

What is the Image of God?

Col 2:9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.

What did He do:

Col 1:13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:
Col 1:14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:
Col 1:15 Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:
Col 1:16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
Col 1:17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
Col 1:18 And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.
Col 1:19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;

What did Jesus Christ say about this:

John 8:23 And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.
John 8:24 I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am, ye shall die in your sins.

The words I AM are the same words spoken from the burning bush to Moses.

God is One God but He has three distinct personalities Father, Son and Holy Spirit for the Holy Spirit is God also. They tried to kill Jesus Christ when He told them He was the Son of God for:

Phil. 2:6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
Phil. 2:7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
Phil. 2:8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
Phil. 2:9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
Phil. 2:10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
Phi 2:11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord (Jehovah), to the glory of God the Father.

Salvation is to say what Thomas said:

John 20:28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.

Which is Truth because:

John 1:1 In the beginning was th= e Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1:2 The same was in the beginning with God.
John 1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
John 1:4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

John 1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

All God's Blessings in Christ Jesus the One True God,
The Believers

The term "trinity" is never mentioned in the Bible. "God is one" is repeated many times however.

Isaiah 45:18-23 For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the LORD; and there is none else. I have not spoken in secret, in a dark place of the earth: I said not unto the seed of Jacob, Seek ye me in vain: I the LORD speak righteousness, I declare things that are right. Assemble yourselves and come; draw near together, ye that are escaped of the nations: they have no knowledge that set up the wood of their graven image, and pray unto a god that cannot save. Tell ye, and bring them near; yea, let them take counsel together: who hath declared this from ancient time? who hath told it from that time? have not I the LORD? and there is no God else beside me; a just God and a Saviour; there is none beside me. Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else. I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear.

Philippians 2:10-11 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

There is no one beside the Lord. Jesus is Lord. The phrase "right hand" is not a literal place, but it speaks of a place of power, the power of God, is his name, Jesus. The name was hidden from the beginning, but revealed with his glorious coming. "Son of God" is also not a literal phrase.

Isaiah 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

The Anointed One, or Messiah, or Christ, was the "son" that was given. That son, Jesus, is the mighty God and everlasting Father.

John 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

Ephesians 4:4-6 There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

If God is a Spirit, and there is one Spirit; how could the Holy Spirit differ from the Spirit of the Father?

Patricia, I don't know how old your message is but hope you receive some encouragement. The trinity concept is not easy to understand nor have I found any that can begin to explain it reasonably. Please read God's word, talk with him, know Jesus as man and God and he will give you the wisdom needed to be his follower. I sense you are as you are asking the right questions - the same my daughter, myself and other true followers have pondered! I am certain Jesus Christ is God and God is God now and have tried some very poor attempts to share with my daughter. I didn't know who I was supposed to pray too and leaders at my church were not able to provide guidance. I used to obsess over understanding and worried I wasn't saved either but God showed me the error of this attempt. The scriptures quoted here are good and can help us through wisdom given by God. I don't have understanding to the holy spirit being separate although scholars can point to some scriptures that reference "he" and "counselor". I will wait for our Lord to give me understanding of God, Son and Spirit, while my real focus and strongest desire is on knowing and following Christ. Your sister in heaven and on earth, Gina
